271 Duško Vujošević is the Best in Europe!

Duško Vujošević is the best Head Coach for the season 2008/2009 according to the votes of the 24 Head Coaches of team.

Vujošević will receive the prestigious award ‘Alexander Gomeljsky’ that is presented to the best coaches in Euroleague. He deserved it for outstanding results with one of the youngest teams in Euroleague Competitions, BC Belgrade. The Black and Whites achieved marvellous results under Dule’s command securing Euroleague Top 8 place for two consecutive years. The Black and Whites had some memorable wins in this season beating European Champions Panathinaikos and Euroleague finalists CSKA Moscow.

Partizan played several matches in Belgrade Arena due to the fact that it was the only basketball hall in Belgrade to meet the needs of the ecstatic fans. Therefore, the match against Panathinaikos exceeded the previous attendance records with unbelieveable 22. 576 fans who celebrated Partizan’s 63:56 win against the Greens.

For marvellous results and constant work with Partizan in this season, Vujošević’s colleagues granted him with the prestigious award ‘Alexandar Gomeljsky’ which is for the first time in history presented to a head coach who did not win the Euroleague in the same season.

Vujošević will receive the award on July 8 in Barcelona at the Euroleague 2009/2010 Group Draw Ceremony.

50-year old, Vujošević has been Head Coach of Partizan for 13 seasons. He started his career as a youth coach in Partizan but took over as the first team Head Coach with only 26 years of age in 1985.

Vujošević lead Partizan to the Champions title in the very first season as the Head Coach and reached The Euroleague final 4 in ’88. The very next year he won Radivoj Korac’s Cup with Partizan.

During his prolific career, Vujošević has coached such as Vlade Divac, Žarko , Predrag Danilović and Aleksandar Saša . He also created today’s Eurolegue stars, the best Eurolegue Center Nikola Peković and Rising Star and many more.

Duško Vujošević has won 8 consecutive National Champion Titles, 3 consecutive NLB league titles and National Cups.

The award ‘Alexandar Gomeljsky’ is being award in honour of the legendary Russian coach who led the first European Club Champions to the throne. Gomeljsky is the father of basketball in former USSR and Russia. He also led CSKA Moscow to their last ‘old era’ trophy of European Champions in 1971.

Gomeljsky died in 2005, aged 77 and the award voted by the Euroleague coaches is presented to the best coaches in Europe since then.
