Michael Ballack and John Obi Mikel ruled out for Chelsea
Michael Ballack and John Obi Mikel, the midfield players, have been left out of the Chelsea squad for their group D Champions League match against Apoel Nicosia in Cyprus on Wednesday night. Mikel has an ankle problem while Ballack is struggling with a calf strain.
After the 3-1 defeat against Wigan Athletic in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday, Carlo Ancelotti, the Chelsea manager, could have done without the setbacks. However, Ashley Cole, who left the pitch early at Wigan with an ankle problem, has recovered.
Deco, the Portugal midfield player, and Joe Cole, the England midfield player, who missed the Wigan match due to a cold, were also declared fit to travel.
