‘I was so star-struck by my buddy Tom Cruise, I named my youngest son after him,’ admits David Beckham

David Beckham is no stranger to mixing it with celebrities, but even he admits to being star-struck at times particularly where his good friend Tom Cruise is concerned.
In fact the football star is said to be so close to his movie star friend that when it came to naming his youngest son it seemed only natural to call him Cruz.
‘I must admit, when [Victoria and I] met Tom, I remember turning around to Victoria and saying, “Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it different”,’ Beckham reveals.
‘And also, living in Spain, Cruz is spelled the way it is in Spanish. So that’s why we got it.’
Last night Beckham returned to Britain with wife Victoria following a holiday in the Seychelles.
The 34-year-old told writer Grant Wahl that he turns to Cruise when it comes to most of his major decisions.
Wahl’s recent book, The Beckham Experiment, devotes nearly an entire chapter to the ‘bromance’ between Beckham and Cruise who met in 2003.
He reveals David and wife Victoria shared the Mission: Impossible actor’s agents, Creative Artists Agency, and at Cruise’s urging also hired his PR firm, Rogers & Cowan.
And when they moved to L.A. they bought a house just five minutes from Cruise’s home with Katie Holmes in Beverly Hills.
Tom and Katie even hosted the Beckhams’ ‘Welcome to L.A.’ party, with Cruise making the haul from Germany, where he had been filming ‘Valkyrie.’

Beckham said he talks to Cruise most days of the week and takes his advice on nearly everything – including whether or not to take the record-breaking paying job with L.A. Galaxy.
He also recommended Beckham’s physical therapist and introduced him to another superstar pal, Will Smith.
But Beckham still insists there is one thing he does not follow Cruise in – his belief in Scientology.
‘It’s something I respect, because Tom’s explained to me and Victoria what it’s all about,’ Beckham told the writer.
‘But he’s never turned around and said, ‘That is what you should be doing,’ because he would never do that.
‘He and Katie have their beliefs … but me and Victoria have also got our own.’
