Bulls vs. Pistons – 1990 Playoffs Game 4: Jordan 42pts
Pistons were on track for their second straight NBA championship in 1990. In the Eastern Conference Finals they won the the first two games in Detroit and lost the third game in Chicago after a 47 point performance by Jordan. In this 4th game, Bulls opens up a big lead early on and finishes the half with a 19 point lead. (51-33). As expected Pistons does not go away easily and cut down the lead to just 3 points at the end of third. 19 of Jordan’s 42 points comes in the fourth quarter when they desperately foul him virtually on every occasion he drives the lane. The only Bulls players to sink a shot in the final quarter are Cartwright (2) and Paxson (1). Jordan finishes with 42pts (13-26), game-high 9 asts, 4 rbs, 4stls, and 3 blks. Pippen who has 14pts/6rbs is in foul trouble most of the game. Grant with 11 points. Paxson is the best of the supporting cast with 17 points and 7 assists. For the Pistons, Rodman has a great night with 20 points 20 rebounds (10 offensive). Isiah finishes with 26/8/8 but both he and Dumars struggle against the half court trap implemented by the Bulls which cost them a total of 22 turnovers. Defensively The Bulls are great. In fact, after the game Phil Jackson says this is the best game they played all year. —————————————- Some notes and post game quotes from the game: “As (Bulls coach) Phil Jackson said last game, Jordan ruled,” Pistons coach Chuck Daly said. “He did it again. He got his 40.” “The Bulls intensity in …

starks23 dude, I increased over 14 inches on my jump by completing the training system over at 50 inch vertical (dot) com. now being being shorter than everyone else is something I don’t have to worry about in basketball finally, haha
The way Jordan blocked Dennis reminds me of thee way Lebron blocks players. He just came out of nowhere.
starks23 seriously if I, have the ability to dunk, then even you can, I am simply 5ft 7inchs no lie! Just simply be dedicated to a working jump system like the one over at “50inch vertical [dot] com”, it will enhance your leaping ability and your quickness.
Michael is the best ever. Not Kobe, Lebron, it’s MJ
is that hubie lol
Jackson was a “star” for the Knicks?
damn that’s sick. That’s coming from someone who’s the shortest on his team but do windmills and double pump dunks. I used the training program at – snipurl[dot]com/nbatraining – and gained over 13 inches on my leap. Being able to finish my dunk is the least thing I have to worry about in basketball now, haha.
Kobe is a poor man’s version of JORDAN…
you don’t know your history, MJ never averaged 40+ against them after the implementation of the Jordan rules…do yourself a favor and go to basketball-reference and look up MJ’s numbers from the 88 playoffs to the 90 playoffs, he had big games, but NEVER CAME CLOSE to averaging 40!
I love how Jordan doesn’t care about where he is on the floor, like at 8:23, just inside the three point line, a lot of players would pass that shot up seeing it as useless when you could step back for the 3 pointer or take it to the hoop, jordan just eyes it up and knocks it down.
Who has the MJ highlight reel from game 3 of this seres where he dropped 47?
Players get stronger but not faster in 90s.
Actually it’s late 80s.
Although the team defense of 80s is not better than 90s, but the Jordan rule or focus on Jordan was there in 80s.
I mainly discuss about the defense that Jordan faced, if u watch that vid u can tell. That’s much tougher than todays.
And the game were much faster back to 80s, and they mostly played team offense, not like players started play one on one a lot since late 90s.
i stand by what i said. i do know what im talking about. the avg final score of games in the 80′s were higher than what they were in the 90s. as players got bigger, stronger and faster in the 90s thats when defense became prominent. and i dont like old ignorant ppl who get upset bcos someone has a difference of opinion w/ them.
u know nothing about 80s, don’t comment on what u don’t know
watch this, then tell me only Pistons can defense. Watch how many double team and how physical back to 80s.
We don’t like young Kobe fan comment on something they NEVER SEE BEFORE.

What r u talking about? The whole 80s, 90s defense were much tougher than today’s.
Check out this 1987 season game, Jordan made 53 pts.
Watch how physical and how many double team, trible team he faced.
Then you come back and say to me again: Pistons was the only defense team. Even a normal team can do defense in regular season.

MJ was so good on D he held Dumars and Johnson below double figures in the previous game.
The piston defense never stopped Jordan he averaged 40+ against them
that turn around jumpshot is unreal!!! MJ just played both ends of the floor, there is no comparison to this man – we should stop with the comparisons already..this guy is the best ever. His tenacity is unmatched.
19 years ago today!
well yes they were the best defensive teams than but you have to understand that the games were alot tougher than you breathe on a guy its a foul in todays shit league
but there was still no defense. the only defensive teams were the pistons, celtics, and the 76ers in the early 80′s. tell me why one other team besides the lakers made it to the finals every year of 80s. there were only about the same 4 teams every year that had a chance to win the title during the 80s
you know, come to think of it…those three playoff loses really made the bulls who they were in the nineties..and it forced micheal to developed that deadly midrange game to compliment his already dominant inside game (of course he would also become the best high post player too)…
no your wrong the teams in the 80s and 90s can hit a open jump shot unlike todays shitty game
yeah a team line up like that comes around rarley
hey I became a basketball fan watching Chicago and I loved the Bulls teams from 88-94 but after that I started to dislike them. I am from Michigan too. Now I’m all Pistons but MJ IMO is the best ever and I loved Pippen, Grant and the rest those years..
