Rockets nips Trail Blazers in OT, 107-105

HOUSTON, TX — Houston Rockets’ Kyle Lowry scored a season-high 33 points with nine assists and Kevin Martin notched six of his season-high 28 points in the final 32 seconds of the overtime period to defeat the visiting Portland Trail Blazers, 107-105 on Friday at the Toyota Center Arena.
“Luis set a great pick to get me open. He did a lot of things that really helped us down the stretch,” said Houston guard Kyle Lowry
Big men Luis Scola and Samuel Dalembert only scored six points each but they combined for 22 rebounds. Chase Budinger also scored his season-high 18 points and four rebounds for Houston to improve their record 5-7 in the Western conference and 4-1 at home this season.
The Rockets were almost perfect in the free throw area after halftime when they shot 12 of thier 13 attempts.
The Rockets led all the way throught the fourth quarter however the Trail Blazers managed to get back on track when they rallied in the fourth quarter.
“It kind of became a dog fight in that fourth quarter. It was just a dirty, ugly game. … Kyle, Kevin and Chase really stepped up big because we were having problems getting offense out of other places,” said Houston coach Kevin McHale.
Nicolas Batum with 29 points inlucing 6 of 7 behind the arc led the Portland Trail Blazers who lost their third straight game and now 7-5. LaMarcus Aldridge had a double double performance with 22 points and 10 rebounds. But Aldridge and Batum’s effort was not enough to defeat the Rockets at home. Raymond Felton had an ugly night at the three point area as he shot 0 of 6 in the rainbow country, he only had 13 points.
The Blazers will try to end their losing streak against the New Orleans Hornets while the Rockets are looking to win three straight against the Washington Wizards this coming Monday.
