Heat melts Spurs with fiery threes, 120-98

MIAMI, FL — The San Antonio Spurs led as much as 14 points in the first half of the game however the captainless Miami Heat rained down their three pointers in the second half to ruthlessly defeat them by 22 points, 120-98, Tuesday night at the American Airlines Arena.
Without Dwayne Wade, LeBron James led all scorers with 33 points, 10 assists and five rebounds while Chris Bosh had 30 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Mike Miller came out off the bench and poured 6 of 6 from behind the arc for 18 points while Mario Chalmers also shot 4 of 6 in the three point area with 13 points.
“LeBron James was great,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “He waited for the third quarter to come out and he went wild. That certainly helped them kick our butts. More than that in the second half, I thought they got really physical and I felt we folded.”
Those three pointers became the factor for Miami to overcome the Spurs’ attack.
“We have a great luxury with three players who can do special things when you need it. No question about it, LeBron and Chris were brilliant offensively tonight and shouldered a big load there. But I told the guys that make no mistake about it, the commitment, the activity on the defensive side of the floor in the second half was about as good as we can be,” said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.
On the other hand, Daniel Green led the Spurs with 20 points off the gym. Tony Parker had 18 points, three assists and three steals. Dejuan Blair had 13 points while Kawhi Leonard added 12 for San Antonio. Their force was not enough to close the game.
The Heat will try to continue winning against the Los Angeles Lakers this Thursday while the Spurs will meet Dwight Howard and the Orlando Majic on Wednesday.
