Celtics rips Grizzlies Apart, 98-80
BOSTON, MA — The Boston Celtics are on a roll since Paul Pierce and the crew are complete, they defeated the Memphis Grizzlies who invaded the TD Garden on a Sunday night and won eight of their nine games.
Kevin Garnett scored 24 points and is one rebound shy for a double double to lead the Celtics to a 98-80 win over Memphis. In this game, Garnett hit his third consecutive three pointer.
“When I walk around the streets, you all can stop acting like you’re shocked that I can shoot three’s. Everybody in Boston, everybody in the world, everybody in Minnesota, LA, wherever I’m at, Concord, Lexington, Burlington. I can shoot three’s. Let that go. I can shoot three’s,” Garnett on hitting 3-pointers in three consecutive games.
Captain Paul Pierce was 10 out of 10 from the free throw line and he ended with 21 points for 5 of 12 shooting in the field. He is now nine points away to tie Larry Bird for the second place on the Celtics all time scoring list.
Ray Allen had 12 points, while Chris Wilcox was 5 of 5 off the bench and provided 12 points as well. Rajon Rondo only had five points in the game but he tied his season high 14 assists.
The defense of Boston was real tight in this game that is why they keep getting points from the turnovers committed by the Grizzlies.
“Defense is key the last three weeks for us. Our guys have bought into it. To see everybody talking –that’s nice from a coach standpoint when you can hear all the talking. It can’t get better than that,” said Boston coach Doc Rivers.
On the other hand, Rudy Gay led the Grizzlies with 21 points for 8 of 16 shooting and he played for 39 minutes despite being hurt early in the game. O.J Mayo provided 15 points for Memphis off the bench while reserve Dante Cunningham and Sam Young had 10 points each.
The Grizzlies will try to bounce back and battle the San Antonio Spurs while the Celtics will host the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday.
