Philly spoils Kobe’s night

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Kobe Bryant surpassed Shaquille O’Neal for the fifth place on the league’s all-time scoring list by scoring 28 points however his fun was spoiled by the turf owners the Philadelphia 76ers when they beat the Los Angeles Lakers, 95-90, Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

Luo Williams was in the right place and in the right time to make a run down the stretch to lift the Sixers who are trailing in the early fourth quarter.

Williams scored 24 points in the game including some clutch baskets in the final period, he came of the bench and played for 25 minutes only and shot 7 of his 12 shots, 3 of his 6 three point attemts and hit 7 of his 8 free throws.

“Lou got hot at the right time for us,” Sixers coach Doug Collins, on Williams.

“He’s our closer. When he comes in at the end, he has the ability to make plays,” said Sixers center Spencer Hawes, on Williams.

Jrue Holiday scored 13 points for 6 of 12 shooting while Andre Iguodala added 12 points and five assists just enough for the Sixers to overcome a tough opponent.

Andrew Bynum was so strong underneath the basket and once again had a double-double performance with 20 points and 20 rebounds. Pau Gasol also had double figures with 16 points and 11 rebounds but their efforts were ruined by the home team in the final stretch.

The Lakers goes down to 14-11 and hangs on the sixth place in the Western Conference standings. On the other hand, the Sixers moves up to 18-7 for the third place in the Eastern Conference.

Kobe and the Lakers will continue their road trip and goes to their rival the Boston Celtics on Thursday while Philly will host the San Antonio Spurs this Wednesday.
