Chandler, Lin leads Knicks to third straight victory
WASHINGTON, DC — No Melo, No Amare the New York Knicks are A-ok as they won their third straight game against the home team Wahington Wizards, 107-93, Wednesday night at the Verizon Center.
Knicks All Stars Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire are not present in the court when they have personal problems to solve. Melo was out for approximately two weeks because of a strained right groin while Stoudemire will be returning next Monday because of his dear brother’s death.
Tyson Chandler led the Knicks with his double double performance with 25 points and 11 rebounds while rookie Jeremy Lin started his third game and continue to be so efficient, Lin scored 23 points and dished out 10 assists to grab their third staight win.
Lin amazed the crowd with his surprising break away dunk in the third quarter where the Knicks began to take over.
“I didn’t know he could dunk. When he’s going in for the dunk I’m like ‘no Jeremy, just lay the ball up.’ And all of a sudden he dunks it and I was probably just as excited as the crowd was,” said Tyson Chandler on Jeremy Lin’s third-quarter dunk, the first of his career.
Steve Novak was red hot behind the arc as he sank 5 of his 9 attempts and he tied his season high 19 points for New York. Landry Fields scored 16 points while reserve Iman Shumpert added 17 for the Knicks who broke the backs of the Wizards in the second half.
John Wall led the Wizards with 29 points for 12 of 21 shooting and he dished six assists. Trevor Booker had 17 points for 8 of 11 in the field while Nick young followed his season high 29 points on Monday with a 3 of 11 shooting with 7 points only against the Knicks.
The Wizards will try to end their losing streak agains the Miami Heat while the Knicks will go for a fourth straight victory when they face the Los Angeles Lakers this Friday.
